What is Explorer Scouting all about?

Explorer Scouting is about outdoor action, meeting people and having a good time.

Who are Explorer Scouts?

Explorer Scouts are young people of both sexes aged between 14 and 18 years old. They are no different to anyone else their age, but they have discovered that Scouting is fun and that it allows them to meet new friends and take part in many different events and activities.

When do Explorer Scouts meet?

All Explorer Scouts in Fylde District are members of a Unit of their choice. Units meet at different times and in different places all across the District. All unit meeting times vary to take account of the activities that are planned and other commitments of Unit members. Usually the Unit that you first join will be the one closest to your home, or the one that does activities when you are available. However, Explorer Scouting is totally flexible so by joining one Unit you can take part in activities run by any Unit in the District. There is more information on Fylde Explorer Units here.

What do Explorer Scouts do?

Explorer Scouts within each Unit choose a programme amongst themselves that they want to participate in. Programmes of Units in Fylde District vary quite a lot throughout the year but most units make sure that they always include regular opportunities to try new activities as well as lots of adventurous activities to escape from school and exam pressures. All Units also offer the chance to gain awards which recognise achievements, commitment and participation. Of course amongst all that there are regular and 'one off' social events to make sure that you get to meet new friends and have time out. You can see more of what Units have been up to recently on the Past Events page.

Why do it?

For fun, friendship and adventure in a safe friendly environment and to get some recognition for what we do with our leisure time. By choosing to work towards the major awards for the Explorer Scout Section you cover the requirements for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award - so by doing one you can get the other almost for free!
